Emergency Tooth Pain in Hyderabad? Get a Dentist at Home Today

By Dr. Rohan Kotoju — Prudentoe Home Dental Care, Hyderabad

Dental emergencies do not wait for a convenient moment. A severe toothache at 11 pm, a crown that comes loose before an important meeting, a child who chips a tooth on the weekend — these moments are stressful enough without the added anxiety of sitting in a clinic waiting room. Prudentoe's home dental service means a BDS-certified dentist can be with you in Hyderabad — equipped and ready to treat — without you having to go anywhere.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

Not all dental situations require emergency treatment, but these do: severe or throbbing toothache that is not responding to over-the-counter painkillers; a tooth that has been knocked out or significantly fractured; a lost or broken crown, bridge, or filling causing pain; swelling of the face, jaw, or gum (which can indicate an abscess and spread quickly); a dental abscess with or without a visible pimple on the gum; uncontrolled bleeding following an extraction; and a child with a significant dental injury.

  • Severe throbbing toothache not relieved by painkillers
  • Knocked-out or fractured tooth
  • Lost or broken crown or bridge causing pain or sensitivity
  • Facial or gum swelling — especially if spreading rapidly
  • Dental abscess (deep infection)
  • Post-extraction bleeding lasting more than 30–40 minutes

What to Do While You Wait for the Dentist

If you have a toothache: rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Take an over-the-counter analgesic (ibuprofen is generally more effective for dental pain than paracetamol). Do not place aspirin directly on the tooth or gum — this causes chemical burns to the tissue.

If a tooth has been knocked out: handle it by the crown (not the root). If it is clean, try to place it back in the socket and hold it there gently. If not, store it in milk or saliva — not water. Call us immediately; time is critical for reimplantation.

If you have facial swelling or a suspected abscess: do not apply heat. Take painkillers and call us immediately. Dental abscesses can spread to the airway in serious cases and should not be left untreated.

What the Emergency Dentist Can Do at Your Home

Our doctors carry the equipment to assess and manage most dental emergencies at home. For a toothache caused by pulp infection, this typically means commencing root canal treatment, providing local anaesthesia for immediate pain relief, and prescribing antibiotics if there is spreading infection. For a lost crown, we can re-cement or provide a temporary restoration. For an abscess, we can incise and drain where appropriate and prescribe the correct antibiotics.

For truly complex situations — severe facial space infections, full surgical impaction removal, or trauma requiring imaging — we will triage you to the correct specialist. But for the majority of dental emergencies, we can provide definitive or intermediate treatment at your home on the same day.
