About This Treatment

What is Composite Fillings?

Composite resin fillings are the modern standard for restoring teeth affected by decay, minor fractures, or cosmetic imperfections. Unlike older amalgam (silver) fillings, composite perfectly matches your natural tooth colour — making restorations completely invisible. They also bond directly to tooth structure, requiring less drilling than amalgam and strengthening the tooth from within.

Composite is used to fill cavities of all sizes, close gaps between teeth, repair chips, reshape worn or fractured teeth, and even replace old, failing amalgam fillings. The material is applied in thin layers, each cured (hardened) by a specialised LED light, building up a precise, durable restoration in a single visit.

In the hands of our BDS-certified dentists, composite fillings are comfortable to place, immediately functional, and highly aesthetic. The procedure is completed in one home visit with no laboratory work and no waiting period.

Benefits

Why Composite Fillings?

Understanding the purpose behind your treatment helps you make confident, informed decisions about your oral health.

Invisible Restoration

Composite resin is shade-matched precisely to your natural tooth colour, making the filling completely undetectable to the eye. Your smile looks natural at every angle, even in photographs.

Preserves More Natural Tooth

Composite bonds chemically to enamel and dentine, requiring less drilling than amalgam. This conservative approach preserves maximum natural tooth structure — extending the long-term health of the tooth.

Mercury-Free & Biocompatible

Composite contains no mercury or metal components. It is biocompatible and safe for patients of all ages, including children and pregnant women. It does not expand or contract with temperature changes.

Versatile Beyond Cavities

Composite can be used to close gaps, repair chips, reshape teeth, mask stains, and restore worn tooth edges — making it one of the most versatile tools in cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

Who Is This For?

Is Composite Fillings right for you?

Understanding who benefits most from this treatment — and who may need a different approach — helps you make a confident, informed decision about your care.

Recommended for:
Visible Front Teeth

Composite is the material of choice for incisors and canines — shade-matched precisely to your tooth colour for a completely invisible restoration.

Patients Wanting Mercury-Free Care

Composite contains no amalgam or metal, making it safe for all patients and a natural choice for those seeking biocompatible, metal-free restorations.

Small to Medium Cavities

Composite bonds chemically to tooth structure, requiring less drilling than amalgam and preserving more healthy tooth in small-to-medium decay cases.

Chipped, Fractured, or Worn Teeth

Composite can restore chipped edges, close small gaps, mask localised stains, and reshape mildly irregular teeth — all in a single appointment.

Replacing Old Amalgam Fillings

Patients wishing to replace discoloured or failing silver fillings with a natural-looking alternative are excellent composite candidates.

Not Recommended for:
Very Large Posterior Cavities

When decay affects more than 50–60% of a tooth's structure, a dental crown provides superior long-term protection compared to a large composite filling.

Severe Bruxism (Tooth Grinding)

Heavy grinding fractures composite fillings prematurely. A night guard is recommended alongside composite restorations for patients who clench or grind.

High-Load Molar Restorations

For large cavities on heavily stressed molar biting surfaces, a ceramic inlay, onlay, or crown may offer significantly greater durability than composite resin alone.

Our Process

How we do composite fillings

Every step is performed by BDS-certified dentists at your home in Hyderabad, with fully portable, sterilized clinic-grade equipment.

01

Diagnosis & Shade Matching

The dentist assesses the tooth, determines the extent of the cavity or defect, and selects the composite shade that most closely matches your natural tooth colour under natural lighting.

02

Local Anaesthesia

A local anaesthetic is administered to numb the tooth and surrounding tissue. Most patients feel nothing beyond a mild initial sensation, and the tooth is completely numb within 2–3 minutes.

03

Decay Removal & Preparation

All decayed and compromised tooth structure is removed. The cavity walls are etched with a mild phosphoric acid gel and primed with a bonding agent to ensure the composite adheres securely.

04

Composite Application & Curing

Composite resin is applied in incremental layers. Each layer is hardened in seconds using a high-intensity LED curing light, building up a precise, void-free restoration.

05

Shaping, Bite Adjustment & Polish

The filling is contoured to match the tooth's anatomy, your bite is checked and adjusted, and the surface is polished to a smooth, natural finish. You can eat on it within 1–2 hours.

Post-Treatment

Aftercare for Composite Fillings

Follow these guidelines after your treatment to ensure the best possible healing and long-term results.

Avoid Eating for 1 Hour

Allow the anaesthesia to wear off and avoid biting your cheek or tongue accidentally while the area is still numb.

Avoid Staining Foods for 48 Hours

Coffee, tea, turmeric, and red wine stain new composite more readily in the first 48 hours. A white diet during this period protects the shade.

Expect Mild Sensitivity for Up to 2 Weeks

Some sensitivity to cold, sweet, or pressure is normal after composite placement and typically settles fully within 1–2 weeks.

Check Your Bite

If your bite feels uneven after an hour, contact us — a minor polish corrects this quickly. Do not leave an uneven bite, as it causes tooth soreness.

Brush and Floss Normally

Resume your full oral hygiene routine from the next morning. Do not avoid the area — cleaning around fillings prevents secondary decay.

Avoid Excessive Pressure on the Tooth

Composite is durable but can fracture under extreme force. Avoid biting nails, opening bottles, or chewing very hard foods on the filled tooth.
