Local Anaesthesia
Comprehensive local anaesthesia is administered to block sensation in the entire lower jaw (for mandibular extractions) or the upper posterior area. You will feel pressure and vibration, but no pain.
Gum Incision & Bone Access
For impacted wisdom teeth, a small incision exposes the tooth and the overlying bone. Bone is carefully removed using a dental handpiece to expose the crown of the wisdom tooth.
Tooth Delivery
The wisdom tooth is either elevated and removed intact, or sectioned into pieces (crown-root split) for safer, more controlled removal in cases with complex root curvature or proximity to the nerve.
Suturing & Aftercare
The surgical site is sutured, packed with gauze, and you receive detailed written aftercare instructions. Ice pack application, diet modifications, and prescribed medications manage swelling and discomfort. Sutures are removed at a home visit 7–10 days later.
Aftercare for Wisdom Tooth Removal
Follow these guidelines after your treatment to ensure the best possible healing and long-term results.
Bite Firmly on Gauze for 45–60 Minutes
Apply sustained, firm pressure with the gauze provided. This is essential for haemostasis. Replace gauze and continue if significant bleeding persists after 45 minutes.
Ice Packs for the First 24 Hours
Apply 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, to minimise swelling. Swelling peaks at day 2–3 and then progressively improves over the following days.
Take All Prescribed Medications
Begin pain relief before the anaesthesia wears off. Complete the full antibiotic course and use any prescribed chlorhexidine mouthwash as directed.
Soft Food Diet for 5–7 Days
Yoghurt, soups, mashed foods, and ice cream are appropriate. Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods until the site has healed adequately.
Warm Salt Water Rinses from Day 2
Gently rinse (no forceful spitting) with warm salt water after meals from day 2. This keeps the socket clean without disturbing the healing clot.
Attend Suture Removal at Day 7–10
A home visit is scheduled for suture removal and healing assessment. Do not attempt to remove stitches yourself — this appointment is an important part of recovery.
