Root Canal Treatment at Home in Hyderabad: What's Possible, What It Costs, and What to Expect

By Dr. Rohan Kotoju — Prudentoe Home Dental Care, Hyderabad

Few dental phrases cause more anxiety than "root canal." The fear is largely inherited — stories passed down from a generation that had the procedure done without adequate anaesthesia or with hand files and no rotary systems. Modern root canal treatment is a fundamentally different experience: it is performed under local anaesthesia, causes no more discomfort than a filling, and — most importantly — it is the treatment that saves a tooth from being extracted. At Prudentoe, we perform root canal treatment entirely at your home in Hyderabad, with the same equipment used in specialist endodontic practices.

When Is Root Canal Treatment Needed?

Root canal treatment (RCT) is required when the pulp — the soft tissue inside the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels — becomes irreversibly inflamed or infected. This typically happens due to deep decay that has reached the pulp chamber, a crack or fracture in the tooth that allows bacteria to enter, a deep filling placed close to the pulp, or a tooth that has suffered trauma.

Once the pulp is infected, it cannot heal on its own. Without treatment, the infection spreads into the bone surrounding the tooth, causing an abscess — a pocket of pus that can cause severe pain, facial swelling, and in serious cases, systemic spread.

  • Spontaneous toothache or throbbing pain without an obvious trigger
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot that lingers after the heat source is removed
  • Sensitivity to cold in a tooth that was previously normal
  • Darkening of the tooth colour
  • A pimple or swelling on the gum near the tooth
  • Pain on biting or pressure

What Does Root Canal Treatment Involve?

The procedure has three stages. First, the area is numbed with local anaesthesia — you should feel pressure and vibration but no pain. An access opening is made through the crown of the tooth, and the infected pulp is removed from the root canals.

Second, the canals are shaped using rotary endodontic files (flexible nickel-titanium instruments driven by a motor) and irrigated with disinfectant solutions to eliminate bacteria. The apex locator confirms the working length of each canal electronically, ensuring the files reach the correct depth.

Third, the canals are filled with a biocompatible material (gutta-percha) sealed with a root canal sealer. The access cavity is restored with a filling. In most cases, a crown is placed on the tooth at a subsequent appointment to restore its full strength — root-treated teeth are more brittle and at higher risk of fracture without a crown.

Can Root Canal Treatment Really Be Done at Home?

Yes — and the quality of treatment at home is identical to a clinic, because the equipment is identical. Prudentoe doctors carry rotary endodontic systems (equivalent to the systems used in specialist endodontic practices), apex locators, a full range of NiTi files, ultrasonic irrigation tips, and root canal sealers.

The portable dental chair provides the correct positioning for root canal treatment, and the high-speed handpiece with LED coupling light gives the same illuminated access as a clinic setup. We have performed multi-rooted root canal treatments — including molars — entirely at home without compromise in quality.

How Many Appointments Does Root Canal Treatment Take?

Single-rooted teeth (most front teeth and premolars) can typically be completed in one appointment of 60–90 minutes. Multi-rooted teeth (molars, particularly lower molars with three or four canals, or calcified canals) often require two appointments — the first to remove the infection and medicate the canals, the second (7–14 days later) to complete the filling.

Complex cases — severely curved canals, retreatment of a previous failed root canal, calcified canals — require more time and occasionally specialist referral, which we will advise on during the first appointment.

How Much Does Root Canal Treatment at Home in Hyderabad Cost?

Prudentoe's root canal treatment at home is priced from ₹4,999 for a single-rooted tooth. Multi-rooted teeth (premolars and molars) are priced higher to reflect the additional complexity and time.

For comparison, root canal treatment at dental clinics in Hyderabad ranges from ₹4,000–₹8,000 at budget clinics to ₹12,000–₹18,000 at specialist endodontic practices or premium clinics in Banjara Hills. Prudentoe's pricing sits in the mid-range for the Hyderabad market — with the added value of home delivery, zero travel, and BDS-qualified doctors.

  • Single-rooted tooth (front teeth, premolars): from ₹4,999
  • Multi-rooted tooth (molars): from ₹7,999
  • Crown placement following RCT: priced separately
  • Confirmation call before treatment — no surprises
